The Operator & Silent Bell

Mechanical slot machines have been around since the 1900's and these mechanical slot machines have become quite popular since the 1910's. The original design of the mechanical slot machine was created by Charles Fey, the car mechanic from San Francisco. The Liberty Bell had to go through several adjustments and changes to itself and thus was created the Operator Bell.

Operator Bell

The Operator Bell consisted of a more bottle neck narrow entry aperture for the players' coins to go in to the mechanical slot machine. The fruit symbols on the spinning reels were introduced around this time. The Mills Novelty Company then began creating, and as well as producing, these new fangled mechanical slot machines. Then later on, at the factories of the Mills Novelty Company, these mechanical slot machines known as the Operator Bells were created using at least five different variations of the original Liberty Bell mechanical slot machines.

The break out of the first World War saw the expansion of the Mills Novelty Company from the Americas and in to Europe, and the factories of the Mills Novelty Company had begun manufacturing around over thirty thousand such mechanical gaming machines.

The army of the heavy mechanical slot machines that were structured up with cast iron eventually died down after the Mills Novelty Company created some new mechanical slot machines that came with cheap wooden cabinets. The beginning of the 1930's saw the Mills Novelty Company undergo a number of different changes in the type of mechanical slot machines that they were producing. These new changes in a way revolutionized the entire gaming system.

Silent Bell

The new changes imbibed in the mechanical slot machines that were produced by the Mills Novelty Company had properties like a double jackpot. In a double jackpot, the mechanical slot machine player had the satisfaction of knowing that he, or she, could very possibly enjoy a double of his, or her, initial luck when it came to winning the jackpot.

Apart from these new characteristics of the mechanical slot machine games, another different aspect of a mechanical slot machine produced by the Mills Novelty Company was that the new mechanical slot machines were comparatively much quieter when compared to the earlier, and prevailing, Operator Bell, which sort of had a draw back in the form of the noise it made. These new mechanical slot machines were known as the Silent Bell mechanical slot machines.
